Ronald L. Souders is of counsel with Funk & Bolton, P.A., resident in the firm's Chestertown office. Mr. Souders practices in the areas of government relations and insurance regulation law. He has spent his legal career representing and advising insurance companies and insurance trade associations, nationally and in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Souders was formerly Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel for Advanta Insurance Company and its subsidiary, Advanta Life Insurance Company. He previously held similar positions for insurance companies that were members of holding companies now known as CIGNA and Aegon. As chief legal officer for these subsidiary companies, Mr. Souders was responsible for managing and providing legal services for all operating units in the states in which those companies were licensed. He was also responsible for managing the legislative and regulatory affairs for the companies.
From 1979 until 1985, Mr. Souders represented the life insurance industry while at the American Council of Life Insurers where he last served as Senior Associate General Counsel. At that time the ACLI represented approximately 600 companies writing over 90% of the life insurance business sold. He also represented the health insurance industry as Executive Vice President of the Health Insurance Association of America (now Americas Health Insurance Plans) from 1997 to 1999. He was responsible for all state and federal legislative and public relations activities of the organization.
Mr. Souders has served on numerous industry, civic and community boards and committees. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and District of Columbia bar associations.
